About

The IDE the AI era deserves

Flame exists for a new way of working: many projects in flight, agents doing real work alongside you, and the need to keep it all coherent.

The editor hasn't kept up with how we actually build. We run a dozen repos, jump between branches, spin up worktrees, and now hand whole tasks to AI agents. Yet most tools still assume one folder and one human, one thing at a time.

Flame started from a simple frustration: switching context kept costing us our place. Tabs lost, terminals gone, the mental model reset every time. So we built a workspace where many projects, branches, terminals, previews, and agents live together on one fast surface, and switching never means starting over.

We kept the editor experience you already trust and wrapped it in everything a modern build needs: git worktrees, a broadcast terminal, live previews, a debugger and test explorer, dependency and API tools, and an Agents Manager that treats AI work like work: created, scheduled, monitored, and given an explicit landing policy.

And we did it local-first. Your workspace stays on your device, connected features act only when you use them, and your model can be cloud-hosted, routed through your own gateway, or running entirely on your machine.

Principles

What we optimize for

A few non-negotiables that shape every decision in Flame.

Local-first

Your code lives on your machine. The workspace binds to loopback and works offline; AI is your choice, including fully local models.

Speed is a feature

Every interaction should feel instant. We obsess over startup, switching, and keeping the UI calm under heavy load.

Built for many

Real work spans many repos, branches, and worktrees. Flame is designed for that from the ground up, not just a single folder.

AI with control

Agents are powerful, so every action is scoped, permissioned, and reviewable. Autonomy never means surprise.

Calm by design

High-contrast, dark, and quiet. A serious tool gets out of the way so you can think.

Open to your stack

Use your languages, model providers, local engines, and manifest extensions, with portable configuration that excludes secrets.
